Project Description

PLTW Engineering at Lakota West Freshman built bat houses for Clear Creek Elementary first grade students who are studying bat habitat. These houses will fill the void where bat habitat has been disturbed.

Content: The top 3 things I learned from this showcase were:

Learned how to use a table saw
The importance of precise measurement
How to improvise and make changes

Culture: This project relates or connects to my family, background, peers, community or my own personal interests in these ways:

Howard wants to be an engineer, this project has inspired him.  All the students involved have discovered they enjoy building things and working with their hands.  The students have also realized that it feels good to help others.

Metacognition: In reflection, one thing that I would have done differently during my journey with this showcase is:

Measure twice and cut once… We wasted some wood because we didn’t check the measurements enough.

Social/Emotional: One thing I am most proud of by completing this showcase is:

That the bats will have a home. We are helping the environment.  The bats are losing their homes because of trees being removed and we helped give them a home.
