Project Description

My goal for these bookcases was to create
something practical, that also looks good. These
bookcases were a great project that can also be done
at home if someone wanted to.

Content: The top 3 things I learned from this showcase were:

  • I learned how to work with a different type of wood than I had experience with before
  • I learned how to stain wood

•Something we learned about this project was that
communication is key. Things can go sideways in a group
project (all projects, really) if there isn’t good enough
communication from each side

Culture: This project relates or connects to my family, background, peers, community or my own personal interests in these ways:

— Something that inspired this was that we wanted to
make something for our home to tell people, “We made
that!”
• We were influenced by the family that we have in
the industry, that have impacted us and inspired us
to pursue this career too.

Metacognition: In reflection, one thing that I would have done differently during my journey with this showcase is:

•If we did this again, we would manage our time differently. It wasn’t our assembly that
took so long, but the cutting and measuring.
– We would use a different type of wood.
•Next time we’ll try to put more thought into our materials
and the list of them we need put together.

Social/Emotional: One thing I am most proud of by completing this showcase is:

Something that made this personal was the fact that we
could use it to furnish our home.
•During this, we struggled with getting the right materials
and sometimes even measurements but were able to overcome the obstacles.
