This showcase focused on raising awareness about addiction, its impact, and the importance of serving and supporting others. Through interactions with individuals in recovery, students gained a deeper understanding of addiction and the hope that exists for those struggling. The project aimed to foster empathy, break down stigma, and encourage meaningful conversations about recovery.
This project connected to students in different ways—some had personal experiences with addiction in their families, while others had never encountered it firsthand. The showcase provided a space for understanding and reflection, bridging different perspectives within the community.
One thing I would have done differently is incorporating a way for students to reflect and share their reactions after the showcase. Many students fully realized the impact of the experience only after participating, and a follow-up discussion could have deepened their learning and engagement.
I am most proud of how my students responded to the women in recovery. Their empathy and engagement showed a genuine understanding of the challenges these women face. Additionally, I am incredibly proud of the women working through their recovery and sharing their stories with such courage.
