Project Description

My passion is to be a game designer, and a student of information technology, programming, and networking. Game designers require a reliable internet connection to be an effective programmer and game tester. In my project, I learned how to create an ethernet cable to allow me to have a strong and stable connection. I will demonstrate how to create and test a CAT 5e ethernet cable.

Showcase Video

Content: The top 3 things I learned from this showcase were:

  • How to properly make an ethernet cable
  • How to test a cable
  • The wiring codes for crossover, rollover, and straight through cables
  • The tools and procedures to make each type of cable, and their use.
  • How ethernet cables can create a more stable internet connection.
  • The differences between CAT 5e and CAT 6.

Culture: This project relates or connects to my family, background, peers, community or my own personal interests in these ways:

Ethernet cables can help people to stay connected, and during this global pandemic, staying connected is now more important than ever. The reason it relates to me is because I enjoy video games, and I rely on a strong internet connection, so ethernet cables plugged straight into the router can give me a stronger and more stable connection.

Metacognition: In reflection, one thing that I would have done differently during my journey with this showcase is:

I would have my materials gathered beforehand, and would have practiced my script before making my video. I should have practiced making the cable on video and better describe the testing, and how to know if the cable failed or not.

Social/Emotional: One thing I am most proud of by completing this showcase is:

One thing I am most proud of by completing this showcase is learning was how to properly do the cabling, and keeping a cool head when my work was undone. Every time the cable would test wrong, even though I did the procedure properly was infuriating, but I had to keep reminding myself that not every cable would be perfect, and that I just had to keep my head up.
