My goal is to create a garden on campus that be used in collaboration with the landscaping program, environmental science class, Veterinary Technician program, and the school cafeteria. I would also like to use this project toward earning the Stars and Stripes Award through the American Heritage Girls Program.
My goal is to build something that will last 10-20 years on campus. Something that future students can continue to update and grow edible vegetation to provide fresh food for the students and animals on campus.
Right now I am in the beginning stages of this project. So far, in preparing and planning this project, I have learned:
This relates to my background because I have always been into gardening and repurposing old products. It also relates to the school environment because this is a very eco-friendly campus with a lot of animals that need to be fed and taken care of. This garden would also help provide hands on experience to our academic classes by letting the environmental science class get out of a traditional classroom and into and environment where they can get hands-on learning experiences.
I would change my design for the pallet boxes to work with different types of plants and to keep the animals from eating them. I would plan my design to better work with the style of the fencing and how the pallets work with it.
As part of the American Heritage Girls program the goals are to help others in my community in correlation with my Christian faith. I wanted a project that would also impact my school community and would benefit them after I graduate.
