Project Description

For our project we will build an aquaponics fish barrel system that will grow produce that can be fed to animals and livestock at our school.  Our project is in process and updates will be added along the way.

Content: The top 3 things I learned from this showcase were:

  • After investigating several styles of aquaponics systems we chose one that was affordable and fit within space constraints.
  • We learned what vegetables would work within the system that would be useful to use with the animals on our campus.
  • We learned that aquaponics would be self-sustaining and would prevent us from having to purchase produce for our animals.

Culture: This project relates or connects to my family, background, peers, community or my own personal interests in these ways:

This project would benefit our campus that is unique in that we have several varieties of animals that live on campus that we learn how to care for.  This system would also benefit students taking the Environmental Science course and provide real-life hands on experience.

Metacognition: In reflection, one thing that I would have done differently during my journey with this showcase is:

One thing that we would have done differently is to choose a system that allows you to see the living fish so that we could better observe their behavior.

Social/Emotional: One thing I am most proud of by completing this showcase is:

We were able to create a project that will be self-sustaining and will continue to benefit the students and animals on our campus after we have graduated.
