Project Description

Our project explores:

  • The various stages of fire
  • The reading of smoke
  • Flow Path as it relates to tactical ventilation and incidental ventilation

Showcase Video

Content: The top 3 things I learned from this showcase were:

  • Fire behavior as it relates to reading smoke and having the ability to predict fire spread in a structure.
  • The benefits of vertical ventilation vs. horizontal ventilation.
  • Clearer understanding of the process of pyrolysis and the production of flammable gases in a structure that can lead to a potential flash-over situation.

Culture: This project relates or connects to my family, background, peers, community or my own personal interests in these ways:

All three of us have an interest in the fire profession and possess the ability to perform safely on a fire scene. Understanding fire behavior and having the ability to read smoke and predict fire conditions within a structure can ensure that all firefighters go home at the end of their shift to their families.

Metacognition: In reflection, one thing that I would have done differently during my journey with this showcase is:

To have more preparation time before the showcase was done. It would have been good to have had a practice session before the live event.

Social/Emotional: One thing I am most proud of by completing this showcase is:

The opportunity to work together with other fellow students to make this presentation a success.
