Project Description

Our project demonstrates the different search and rescue techniques and victim removal techniques.

Content: The top 3 things I learned from this showcase were:

  • Better understanding of search techniques
  • How to safely remove a victim from a structure fire
  • What to assess prior to performing search and rescue at a structure fire—Risks vs. Benefits

Culture: This project relates or connects to my family, background, peers, community or my own personal interests in these ways:

All three of us are very interested in entering the fire service. It is imperative that we are able to work as a team to efficiently perform a primary search in order to save victims from a structure fire. The better we are at performing these tasks the better the service we will provide for the community.

Metacognition: In reflection, one thing that I would have done differently during my journey with this showcase is:

We would have attempted the search and rescue techniques in a more authentic setting with real smoke because we would have gained a better understanding of how it would look and feel in a real fire.

Social/Emotional: One thing I am most proud of by completing this showcase is:

We all agree that it was a pleasure to work together on this showcase project because our field involves huge amount of teamwork to complete the requirements of the job. We now have a better understanding of search techniques, victim removal and safety while performing this task.
