Project Description

Over quarantine I took my skills that I learned in lab to restore my truck hood on my 1985 GMC. I completed the following:

  • Removal and of the hood
  • Prepped for paint by wet sanding and priming
  • Applied a base coat
  • Applied a clear coat
  • Installation of the hood

Content: The top 3 things I learned from this showcase were:

1. I learned a lot from my mistakes.
2. I learned to not give up.
3. Step outside of your comfort zone and try new things.

Culture: This project relates or connects to my family, background, peers, community or my own personal interests in these ways:

During this project my Dad, myself, and my best friend came to help me with my truck. We are passionate about our trucks and they wanted to be a part of the process because it is not something other people get to do every day. To some people painting a piece of a truck is very complicated.

Metacognition: In reflection, one thing that I would have done differently during my journey with this showcase is:

I would have relaxed, thought through my steps. In doing so I would have primed the hood one more time because of some of the bare metal was showing which showed up in my final base coat.

Social/Emotional: One thing I am most proud of by completing this showcase is:

That I was able to complete a very successful project. This was very stressful to me because my truck is a classic car and I wanted it to look perfect, but I had minimum tools and it made it difficult. But I persevered and ended with a very nice product.
