Project Description

Maxine is a Red-eared Slider turtle at the Natural Science Center.
She has developed shell rot and Kyla Evans is leading the way to help treat this problem and prevent it in the future.

Content: The top 3 things I learned from this showcase were:

The things I learned through this showcase are what shell rot really is, how to identify illness in turtles, and how to work with a Veterinarian to treat the animal. I also found a love for turtles, which I didn’t think would ever happen.

Culture: This project relates or connects to my family, background, peers, community or my own personal interests in these ways:

I feel this project relates to my own interests, because as I stated before I found a love for turtles and learning about them makes me more interested in aquatic life. My family has a love for reptiles and turtles fit right in with what we love.

In reflection, one thing I wish I could have done differently during my journey would be to start earlier. I feel as I rushed through making my project because I decided to do it at the last minute.

One thing I am most proud of by completing this showcase is the chance to educate others! I will continue to share what I have learned from this project with my family, fellow students, and those interested in reptiles.
