We organized a group of equine students to form an equestrian drill team.
We used both personal horses and horses boarded at the Butler Tech stables.
Much like the drills, organization, and patterns of a marching band, we choreographed a pattern where the horses “dance” around each other in a large riding arena.
We have learned about the importance of communicating properly, to work with what we have (especially in unexpected circumstances), and how to use the full arena.
Recently, we all attended an event where we got to watch a drill team and this inspired us to collaborate and start a drill team ourselves. We also all work with horses in and out of school, so we have applied the knowledge and expertise gained from these experiences to creating and practicing our drill team patterns.
We wish that we would have written the pattern out sooner and walked the pattern ourselves more before hopping on the horses. This would have built our confidence and we would have been able to better lead our horses.
We are most proud of realizing our dream of participating in an equine drill team with our favorite group of friends and horses.
