Project Description

Our team designed and built a new retaining wall to enhance the appearance of a private home in the community. The project involved:

  • Removing old plants and materials.

  • Constructing a sturdy brick retaining wall with reinforced stability.

  • Matching the wall’s design to the existing home for aesthetic appeal.

Showcase Videos

Goals

To develop hands-on skills in construction and landscaping while improving a local property’s functionality and visual appeal.

Content: The top 3 things I learned from this showcase were:

Madison: Learned how to properly lay bricks, take time for precision, and create an attractive design.
Colby: Gained confidence in public speaking, teamwork, and project planning.
Andrew: Improved teamwork skills, learned the importance of detailed planning, and practiced professional communication.

Culture: This project relates or connects to my family, background, peers, community or my own personal interests in these ways:

Madison: I work doing landscaping in my community.
Colby: This project relates to my future career because I want to start my own business doing landscaping.
Andrew: This is my job—I do it often, so it came naturally to me.

Metacognition: In reflection, one thing that I would have done differently during my journey with this showcase is:

Madison: I would have slowed down and taken more time for preparation.
Colby: I would have improved the PowerPoint and ensured it was ready for showcase night.
Andrew: I would have prepared more thoroughly for the presentation.

Social/Emotional: One thing I am most proud of by completing this showcase is:

Madison: Overcoming challenges and successfully completing the project.
Colby: Working effectively as a team to execute the project and presentation.
Andrew: Seeing people genuinely interested in how we planned and built the retaining wall.
