The goal of this project is to produce a safe and rich environment. By the means of safety, I wanted to reduce exposure to the manure pit and I wanted to prevent possible runoffs that could enter some of the pastures and pens. By the means prosperity (richness), I wanted to make our agricultural campus true to itself by including garden technology. I also want to create a compost system that will reduce waste and benefit both the students and animals. The landscape students could use the compost as a fertilizer, we could produce plantation for the animals, and the environmental students could use the compost for educational and experimental purposes.
I wanted to think of a unique and innovative project that would help my school and produce a change for the better. I noticed that our agricultural based campus was more related to animals instead of vegetation/plantation. It would be hard to create a garden or greenhouse, and the costs would be too high. I decided to simplify my project by looking in to a compost system.
The Natural Science Center is an agriculture based campus, but not all students participate in planting. I want to change that by developing a composting system that can help provide the school and students with resources for a garden. This project is also relates to my future. I used to work on a farm where I had a chance to use my green thumb and a passion ensued. I hope to have a garden of my own one day, but I do not have much experience. This project will help move me to the next level.
If I had the chance to do this project again, I would look at the resources I already have and try not to be too ambitious to point where it’s impossible. I plan to move forward but need to look more at cost, placement, and time factors.
I am mostly proud of myself. I am also proud of the school, the people, and the resources that guided me on this adventure. This project is educational, efficient, and provides a contribution to the world.
